Since 2012, Statistics Lithuania participates in the activity of the UN Statistical Commission as a national statistical office. The 54th annual session in New York was organized on 28 February – 3rd March 2023. More information: UNSD - Welcome to UNSD. Each year the ECE CES Plenary session is participated at the highest level. In 2023, the CES meeting was held on 22–23 June in Geneva and on 28 June in Paris. More information: https://unece.org/statistics/ces

Since 2014 Statistics Lithuania has become an institutional/Ex officio member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI).

Since 2020 Statistics Lithuania has become an institutional member of the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS).

The specialists of Statistics Lithuania actively participate in the ISI and IAOS activities, prepare and make presentations on various statistical themes, participate in international projects.

The intention to become a full member of the OECD has been mentioned in the programmes of the Lithuanian Government since the year 2000.

In September 2002, an official declaration of Lithuania's intention to become a full member of the OECD was presented to the Organization's Secretary-General, it was repeated in October 2012.

In May 2013, OECD Council resolution on Global Reach has been adopted, mentioning the initiation of more active Lithuania-OECD co-operation and a possibility to open accession negotiations with Lithuania in 2015. In September 2013, Lithuania-OECD Action Plan for 2014-2015 has been adopted, identifying the main areas of enhanced co-operation.

On 21 October 2013 Director of OECD Global Relations Department (Mr. M. Bonturi) invited Lithuania to become Participants to the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy (CSSP) and participate in sessions and meetings of this Committee. Lithuania accepted the invitation in January 2014 and Director General of Statistics Lithuania for the first time participated in the CSSP session on 7–8 April 2014 in OECD, Paris as the Participant.

Since the beginning of 2015 Statistics Lithuania experts have started active preparatory activities for the Statistical Review. On 14–16 April Statistics Lithuania hosted the first visit from OECD with participation of Mr. Paul Schreyer, Deputy Director of OECD Statistics Directorate and Mr. Julien Dupont as well as Mr. David Brackfield from the Global Relations and Communications Division of the Statistics Directorate. In 2015 experts from Statistics Lithuania participated in 14 meetings and events organized by both Statistics Division and other OECD divisions. Director General of Statistics Lithuania participated in the 12th CSSP session on 18–19 June in Geneva.

In 2016, Director General of Statistics Lithuania participated in the 13th CSSP session on 25–26 April 2015 in Paris.

On 26–27 October, 2016 Statistics Lithuania hosted the 2nd meeting of the OECD experts. The mission was headed by Mr Paul. Schreyer, Deputy Director of the OECD Statistics Directorate, with participation of Mr Julien Dupont from the Global Relations and Communications Division of the Statistics Directorate and Coordinator for Lithuania, and Mr Charles Aspden, the OECD consultant on national accounts, as well as invited OECD experts – Mr Hans Viggo Sæbø (Statistics Norway) and Mr Gerardo Durand Alcántara (National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico). The 14th annual CSSP meeting was held on 21–22 June 2017 in Geneva. During the confidential session, the Statistical accession review of Lithuania took place, with Mr Paul Schreyer, Deputy Director of the OECD Statistics Directorate, presenting key findings of the Peer review mission in Lithuania, followed by the presentation of the Lithuanian statistical system and its developments, made by Ms. Vilija Lapėnienė, Director General of Statistics Lithuania.  Representatives of Statistics Norway and Mexico commented on missions of their experts to Lithuania. The review was finalised with a Q and A session. The Secretariat is expected to draft a Formal opinion for approval by written procedure, which once adopted by the Committee will be submitted to the Council.

On 5 July 2018  Lithuania deposited its instrument of accession to the OECD Convention, thereby becoming a full member of the Organisation. This message was conveyed during the official visit of the OECD Secretary General Mr. José Ángel Gurría during his visit in Vilnius.

In 2022, 19 meetings of working groups of the OECD Statistics Directorate and other OECD structures were attended.
