Among other priorities The State Data Agency strategy for 2023–2027 focuses on the 3rd direction “Ensure symbiotic partnership“, which envisages active participation in the development of the global statistics and EU legislative process, strengthening of communication and cooperation on the global arena / international  scale, and sharing of best practices thereof.

Conference in Azerbaijan


On 22 February, Director General of Statistics Lithuania Vilija Lapėnienė participated in the conference held in Baku, Azerbaijan.  The conference was aimed at discussing and publicizing the interim results of the EU funded project on the assistance to the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan in launching of the EU standards. Statistics Lithuania participates in the project as a partner. The conference was attended by Head of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Tahir Budagov, deputies and staff, as well as the representatives of the ICON-Institute (Germany), the National Statistical Institute of the Republic of Bulgaria, the embassies of the countries participating in the project, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture, the EU delegation in Azerbaijan, as well as experts from the countries participating in the project and users of statistical information.

Director General of Statistics Lithuania Vilija Lapėnienė reviewed the cooperation of Statistics Lithuania and the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan which began in 2008. While presenting the statistics system of Lithuania, the emphasis was that Lithuania, being the member of the EU and applying the European methods and standards, ensures the production of high quality statistics which are used for political decision making and comparison among the countries.

In the interview for the national television and radio of Azerbaijan, Vilija Lapėnienė stressed the importance of the cooperation between the two statistical offices in launching the European standards and noted the significant progress made by the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan in launching the European standards and methods. She noted that the standards are changing and new ones are emerging, and thus the heads of the statistical offices have constant and responsible task to ensure the launching and implementation of such standards in statistics.

Director General of Statistics Lithuania informed that Lithuania will ensure the further participation of the experts of Statistics Lithuania in this project and expressed hope that the project will be completed in time and the expected results will be achieved.
