High-level meeting of the Latvian and Lithuanian statistical offices

On 03–04 December 2018, Statistics Lithuania hosts a high-level visit from the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia, headed by the CSB President Mrs. Aija Žīgure and with participation of the Vice-president Kaspars Misans.

This bilateral meeting is devoted to discussions on topical issues relevant for both national statistical institutions (NSIs) such as the future of the European Statistical System (ESS) as confronted with several challenges to safeguard official statistics values, implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), coordination of other institutions producing national statistics (ONAs), the role of the Statistical Council in development of the national statistical system, etc.

The delegations plan to share their positions on efficiency of current NSIs administrative structures in meeting emerging needs for the statistical system, developments and new approaches in using administrative data (public digitalized data) for production of statistics and other topics of common interest.

The ideas on future cooperation will be also exchanged as the next Baltic Steering Committee meeting is due next year in Latvia.
