On September 22–23, Statistics Lithuania hosted a seminar "Harmonised statistical information for mortality, fertility and their factor surveys: data and methodological solutions".

The seminar was organised by Statistics Lithuania together with the Lithuanian Social Research Centre and Vytautas Magnus University Demographic Research Centre. It is the first such seminar, attended by the specialists of all three Baltic statistical offices, representatives of other institutions producing official statistics and scientists – representatives of Lithuanian universities. Presentations were made and workshops were run by expert demographers Domantas Jasilionis, Dmitrijus Ždanovas and Sebastijanas Kliuseneris from the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (Rostock, Germany). During the seminar, experts presented modern mathematical fertility and mortality statistics collection and demographic indicator calculation methods. The experience of the international institute related to solving methodological problems arising in the course of development of international mortality and fertility databases was presented. Scientists and statisticians discussed the application of demographic statistics compilation methods taking into account the impact of social and economic aspects on uneven mortality distribution, the use of such statistics for scientific research into the main fertility, mortality and international migration factors.
