Conference of European Statisticians

 

On June 9–13, Director General of Statistics Lithuania Vilija Lapėnienė participated in the 61st Conference of European Statisticians in Geneva (Switzerland).

The Conference provides a platform for the coordination of international statistical work in the UNECE region, for addressing emerging issues and for developing methodological guidelines and recommendations to improve national statistics and their international comparability.

This year, the Conference discussed progress in the estimation of sustainable development indicators and implementation of environmental accounts-related issues. The Conference was also informed about the outcomes of the in-depth reviews carried out by the CES Bureau on banking, insurance and financial, population ageing, and political and other community activities, including volunteering, statistics.

Furthermore, the Conference was informed about the progress of work in implementing the strategy of the high-level group for modernising statistical production and services, and discussed issues related to the governance of work. The participants of the Conference discussed the topics for the Conference of European Statisticians to be held next year. Lithuania proposed making a presentation on migration statistics.
