On August 24–29, Director General of Statistics Lithuania Vilija Lapėnienė participated in the 59^th World Statistics Congress in Hong Kong. The Congress was organised by the International Statistical Institute (ISI) on a biennial basis.

Ms Lapėnienė represented Lithuania, chairing the EU Council Working Party on Statistics, with a presentation entitled "How ISO-based quality management system helps to monitor and ensure quality in statistics", and participated in the ISI General Assembly meeting as in March 2013 she was elected ISI member.

The World Statistics Congress is attended by heads of statistical offices, researchers and users of statistics from all around the world to share experience and opinions relevant to statistics today.
