    In September 2024, against August, the economic sentiment indicator, i.e. confidence of economic actors – producers, consumers and investors – in Lithuania’s economy, decreased from -1.4 to -2.2 per cent. The construction confidence indicator decreased from -7.5 to -12.7, services – from 1.9 to 1, retail trade – from 5.1 to 4.3, consumer – from 5.3 to 4.6 per cent. The industry confidence indicator remained almost unchanged (decreased from -7.3 to -7.5 per cent).
    Compared to September 2023, economic sentiment indicator increased by 4 percentage points. The industry confidence indicator increased by 6.7, consumer – 3.6, construction – 2.5, services – 1.4, retail trade – 0.8 percentage point.

    In August 2024, the number of overnight stays in the accommodation establishments totalled 1 million 212.3 thousand and, compared to the same period last year, increased slightly (by 0.1 per cent). The number of overnight stays of foreign tourists totalled 400.8 thousand (by 4.6 per cent more), of Lithuania’s residents – 811.5 thousand (by 2 per cent less).
    In August 2024, room occupancy rate in hotels and motels stood at 73.6 per cent and, compared to 2023, increased by 4.7 percentage points, bed occupancy rate accounted for 61.8 per cent and increased by 2.8 percentage points.

    In 2023, R&D expenditure increased by 8.7 per cent.
    In 2023, the amount of EUR 772.1 million was allocated for research and development (R&D) works in Lithuania. Compared to 2022, R&D expenditure increased by EUR 61.9 million, or 8.7 per cent. In 2023, R&D expenditure accounted for 1.07 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) (in 2022, 1.05 per cent). R&D expenditure as a percentage of GDP in the higher education and government sectors made up 0.62 per cent (in 2022, 0.52 per cent), in the business sector – 0.45 per cent (in 2022, 0.53 per cent).
    In 2023, the major share of R&D expenditure fell within the higher education sector – EUR 331.3 million, or 42.9 per cent of the total R&D expenditure, while R&D expenditure in the business sector amounted to EUR 323.3 million, or 41.9 per cent, government sector – EUR 117.5 million, or 15.2 per cent of the total R&D expenditure. Over the year, the funding of R&D from government funds increased by 36.9 per cent (EUR 79.6 million), but from business funds decreased by 6.7 per cent (EUR 19.1 million), from abroad funds – by 2.7 per cent (EUR 5 million).
