    As of the data of the Statistical Survey on Population Employment, in I quarter 2024, the employment rate of persons aged 20–64 stood at 77.7 per cent and, against IV quarter 2023, decreased by 0.7 percentage point, against the respective period in 2023, increased by 0.8 percentage point.
    The unemployment rate of persons of the same age group accounted for 8.4 per cent and, against IV quarter 2023, increased by 0.8 percentage point, against the respective period in 2023, increased by 0.5 percentage point.

    As of 1 January 2024, the number of minks grown in the country totalled 313.9 thousand (over the year, it decreased by 8 per cent), that of chinchillas – 33.9 thousand (increased by 32.2 per cent).

    In I quarter 2024, against I quarter 2023, the number of registered economic entities grew by 5.9 per cent. Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of registered bankruptcies decreased by 16.5 per cent.

    In 2023, compared to 2022, the number of tourists’ trips totalled 2,404.7 thousand and, against 2022, increased by 10.9 per cent. The number of same-day trips, in 2023, amounted to 3,125.4 thousand and, against 2022, grew by 22.3 per cent.

    Based on provisional data, at the beginning of May 2024, the resident population of Lithuania totalled 2 million 890 thousand, which is by 4 thousand more than at the beginning of 2024.
    In April 2024, compared to April 2023:

    • the number of live births increased by 65 babies (4.4 per cent) and stood at 1,553;
    • the number of deaths increased by 246 (9 per cent) and stood at 2,974;
    • the number of marriages decreased by 155 couple (22.9 per cent) and stood at 523;
    • the number of divorces decreased by 33 couple (5.8 per cent) and stood at 533;
    • the number of residents who emigrated from Lithuania increased by 0.2 thousand persons (17.1 per cent) and stood at 1.6 thousand;
    • the number of persons who immigrated to Lithuania decreased by 0.2 thousand persons (4.3 per cent) and stood at 4 thousand*.

    In April 2024, 32 per cent of immigrants were the citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who came back to Lithuania.

    * War refugees from Ukraine are included in the 2024 monthly statistics.

    At the beginning of 2024, the resident population of Lithuania totalled 2 million 886 thousand, i.e. by 28.6 thousand less than at the beginning of 2023.

    • At the beginning of 2024, 1 million 977.7 thousand (68.5 per cent) residents of Lithua­nia lived in ci­ties and towns, 908.2 thou­­sand (31.5 per cent) – in rural areas.
    • The number of women in Lithuania was by 154.1 thousand higher than that of men (1 million 520 thou­­­sand and 1 million 366 thousand res­pec­ti­vely). Wo­men accounted for 52.7 per cent of the total resident popu­lation; there were 1,113 women per 1,000 men.
    • At the beginning of 2024, the number of children (aged 0–14) amounted to 418.3 thousand, or 15 per cent of the total number of resident population, people aged 15–64 – 1 million 881.1 thousand, or 65 per cent, elderly resident popu­lation (aged 65 and older) – 587.1 thousand, or 20 per cent. The number of children was by 28.7 per cent lower than that of elderly people.
