In 2019, 38.3 thousand deaths were registered. Against 2018, the number of deaths decreased by 1,293, or 3.3 per cent. The number of deaths per thousand population increased from 13.3 in 2009 to 13.7 in 2019.

In 2019, deaths of persons aged 65 and older accounted for 77.1 per cent (66 per cent of all deaths among men and 87.4 per cent of all deaths among women), 22.6 per cent of all deaths were deaths of persons aged 15–64 (33.6 per cent of all deaths among men and 12.3 per cent of all deaths among women).

In 2019, age-standardised death rates for males were 1.9 times as high as those for females, for the rural population – 1.3 times as high as those for the urban one (in 2018, 1.8 and 1.2 times respectively).
