In 2022, according to the data of the Health Information Centre of the Institute of Hygiene, the largest proportion (82.4 per cent) of deaths fell within these causes of death: diseases of the circulatory system, malignant neoplasms, COVID–19 and external causes of death (in 2021, 84.3 per cent).

In 2022, more than half of the number of deaths (52.5 per cent) was attributed to the diseases of the circulatory system; 18.4 per cent of deaths were caused by malignant neoplasms, 6.1 – by COVID-19, 5.4 per cent – by external causes (in 2021, 48.2, 16.2, 14.7 and 5.1 per cent respectively).

In 2022, 2.6 thousand and2.3 thousand persons died by COVID-19 and due to external causes of death respectively, which is by 4.4 thousand (62.9 per cent) and 88 deaths (3.6 per cent) respectively less than in 2021. In 2022, 527 persons died due to suicides, 464 – falls, 169 – transport accidents, 158 – accidental poisoning by and exposure to alcohol, 117 – drowning and submersion, 53 – assault.
