Economic indicators in culture

With the view of ensuring comparability of the EU statistics on culture and taking into account the specificities of cultural sector, in 2012, the European statistics experts working group prepared recommendations for statistics on culture. Following these recommendations, Statistics Lithuania has assessed and publishes the country’s economic indicators on the culture sector: the value added generated in the cultural sector, output and employed population in the cultural sector. In 2020, the gross value added generated in the cultural sector amounted to EUR 912.5 million, or 2.1 per cent of the country’s gross value added. Compared to 2019, the value added generated in the cultural sector increased by EUR 37.7 million, or 4 per cent. |

The major share of the value added in the cultural sector was created in libraries, archives, museums and other cultural activities (17.4 per cent), creative, arts and entertainment activities (12.5 per cent), printing and reproduction of recorded media (7.3per cent). In 2019, against 2017, the output recorded in the cultural sector increased by 25.8 per cent and amounted to EUR 1.8 billion at current prices. The major share of output was produced in information and communication (EUR 442.0 million), arts and entertainment (EUR 423.7 million) activities. In 2019, the cultural sector employed almost 48.8 thousand persons. The employed population in the cultural sector is estimated based on the ratio of the value added to the country’s value added. |
