Output and value added generated in the sports sector is increasing

In 2019, sports output increased by 15.8 per cent and amounted to EUR 740.21 million at current prices. Value added generated in the sports sector of Lithuania in 2019 grew by 16 per cent and totalled EUR 452.3 million, or 1.03 per cent of the gross value added of our country. This change was mainly influenced by an increase in the value added generated in wholesale and retail trade as well as education activities. The bulk of sports value added was generated in education (34.7 per cent), wholesale and retail trade (18.8 per cent), sport and sports organisation activities (17.6 per cent), and manufacture of transport equipment (9.9 per cent).

In 2019, there were 25 thousand persons (by 2.1 per cent more than in 2018) employed in the sports sector, or 1.8 per cent of the total employed population in our country. Employment in education (42 per cent), sport and sports organisation (30 per cent) activities accounts for the highest percentage of employed persons.
