E-commerce in enterprises
In 2021, 37.6 per cent of enterprises carried out e‑commerce, i.e. sold goods or services via computer networks: 35.1 per cent of enterprises sold goods or services via the Internet, 6.2 per cent – through electronic data interchange. E‑commerce was carried out by 60.6 per cent of large, 46.2 per cent of medium-sized and 34.9 per cent of small-sized enterprises. The largest share of enterprises that carried out e‑commerce was engaged in information and communication (49.9 per cent), trade (48.2 per cent), and professional, scientific and technical (38.6 per cent) activities.

In 2021, the volume of sales via electronic networks of enterprises which carried out e‑commerce, compared to total turnover, made up 17.7 per cent. The largest volume of sales via electronic networks of enterprises which carried out e‑commerce, compared to total turnover, was in information and communication (34.2 per cent), electricity, gas, steam; water supply, sewerage and waste management (30.2 per cent), and transportation and storage (25.9 per cent) activities.

In 2021, online selling was carried out by 35.1 per cent of enterprises. In 2021, 19.6 per cent of enterprises sold goods or services on the website or via mobile applications, 25.8 per cent – via e‑commerce websites.

In 2021, 22 per cent of enterprises sold goods or services via the Internet to private customers, 28.5 per cent – to other enterprises and public authorities.

In 2021, 33.9 per cent of enterprises sold goods or services online to Lithuanian customers, 13 per cent – to the customers of other EU countries, 6.4 per cent – to customers of other (non‑EU) countries.

4.1 per cent of enterprises faced problems related to e-commerce with other EU countries in 2021. The greatest difficulties were related to high costs of delivering or returning of products (2.4 per cent), difficulties related to the VAT system (1.6 per cent), difficulties related to resolving of complaints and disputes (1.3 per cent), and lack of knowledge of foreign languages for communicating with customers in other EU countries (1.3 per cent).
