Housing problems

8 per cent of population were living in dwellings lacking an indoor flushing toilet, 7 per cent – a bath or shower. 11 per cent of residents were living in dwellings with a leaking roof, rot in window frames, floor or damp walls. 15 per cent of residents complained about noise, 17 per cent – about air and environmental pollution.

Housing quality in urban and rural areas contrasted sharply. In urban areas, 2 per cent of persons were living in dwellings lacking an indoor flushing toilet, in rural areas – 19 per cent, a bath or shower – 3 and 17 per cent respectively.

Four out of five (80 per cent) did not face any of the said housing problems: in urban areas – 85, in rural areas – 69 per cent.

Persons living below the at-risk-of-poverty threshold, compared to other persons, lived in dwellings of poorer quality, 20 per cent lived in dwellings lacking an indoor flushing toilet, 20 per cent – a bath or shower. 2 per cent of individuals were facing all four problems mentioned, 65 per cent did not face any of the said housing problems.

In 2020, 21 per cent of population were living in dwellings considered to be overcrowded. Such problem was most common for households comprised of two adults with three and more children (48 per cent).
