In 2021, 87 per cent of persons aged 16–74 used the Internet (in 2020, 83 per cent). The Internet is less often used by older persons than the youth. In the 16–24 age group, persons using the Internet accounted for 100 per cent, in the 65–74 age group – 55 per cent. Technologies gain in popularity in all age groups. Compared to the previous year, the number of persons aged 65–74 using the Internet grew by 9 percentage points.

78 per cent of persons aged 16–74 used the Internet daily (90 per cent of internauts in this age group), 8 per cent – at least once a week but not daily (9 per cent of internauts in this age group). Thus, persons using the Internet at least once a week accounted for 86 per cent of population aged 16–74, or 98 per cent of internauts in this age group.

In 2021, 79 per cent of population aged 16–74 (91 per cent of internauts in this age group) used mobile phones for browsing on the Internet, more than half of population (56 per cent) – laptops, one in four residents (25 per cent) – desktop computer, 24 per cent – tablet computes. Other devices (smart TV, e-book reader, smart watch, etc.) were used to connect to the Internet by every fifth resident (21 per cent), in the 16–24 age group – by 30 per cent, in the 55–74 age group – by 7 per cent of population.

The Internet was mainly used for search for information, communication and banking: 82 per cent of persons aged 16–74 (95 per cent of internauts in this age group) used the Internet for communication, 80 per cent (92 per cent of internauts) – for reading news, 72 per cent (83 per cent of the internauts) – for the Internet banking services. 35 per cent (40 per cent of internauts in this age group) used the Internet for learning, upskilling or self-education purposes.

In 2021, 62 per cent of population aged 16–74 (70 per cent of internauts in this age group) used electronic services provided by public authorities or other public service institutions in the last 12 months. 57 per cent of population searched for information on the websites of the institutions, 52 per cent – filled in and submitted official forms online. Persons who did not fill in and submit official forms online indicated that the main reason was that no official forms were required (75 per cent of internauts who did not fill official forms). Other reasons indicated were lack of knowledge and skills, concern about personal data security.

Electronic social media tools were used for work purposes by 57.6 per cent of enterprises in 2021: 55.5 per cent of enterprises had accounts in social networks, 20.6 per cent – disseminated information on multimedia content exchange websites, 4.4 per cent – used wiki-based knowledge exchange systems, 5.6 per cent – had enterprise blogs.
