The Internet users take various actions to control access to personal information on the Internet (such as name, date of birth, ID card number, contacts, credit card number, photos, location). In 2021, 42 per cent of all Internet users read privacy policy statements before providing personal information, the same number of Internet users did not consent to the use of personal information for advertising purposes. 37 per cent of Internet users restricted or denied access to their geographical location, 35 per cent limited access to profile or content on social networking sites or shared online storage space.

In 2021, 78 per cent of population aged 16–74 who used the Internet in the period of 3 months before the survey knew that cookies can be used to track user activity on the Internet and offer personalized advertising. 87 per cent of persons in the 16–24 age group and 52 per cent of persons in the 65–74 age group knew about the purpose of cookies. Half of the Internet users (49 per cent) were somewhat concerned about their online activities being recorded, 36 per cent – not concerned at all, 16 per cent – very concerned.
