In 2019, environmental protection investment of enterprises amounted to EUR 135,304.2 thousand, which is by 43.9 per cent more than in 2018.

Investment in water protection accounted for the largest share of expenditure on environmental protection: in 2019, it amounted to EUR 71 million, which is by 56.5 per cent more than in 2018. Investment in air protection amounted to EUR 36.6 million (by 45.6 per cent more than in 2018), waste treatment – EUR 20.3 million (by 5.8 per cent less), other environment protection activity – EUR 7.4 million (by 374.2 per cent less).

In 2019, environmental protection expenditure of Lithuanian enterprises1 amounted to EUR 220.4 million, which is by 24.9 per cent more than in 2018.

Expenditure on water protection accounted for the largest share of expenditure on environmental protection: in 2019, it amounted to EUR 148.2 million, which is by 32.2 per cent more than in 2018. Expenditure on air protection of industrial enterprises amounted to EUR 38.2 million (by 50.7 per cent more than in 2018), waste treatment – EUR 31.3 million (by 12.7 per cent less), other environment protection activity – EUR 2.7 million (by 17.2 per cent less).

In 2019, compared to 2018, investment in environmental protection by enterprises grew by 51.3 per cent and amounted to EUR 106.2 million or 48.2 per cent of total environmental protection expenditure of industrial enterprises.

Investment in air protection amounted to EUR 35.4 million (by 57.9 per cent more than in 2018), water protection – EUR 69.1 million (by 59.9 per cent more), waste collection and management – EUR 1 million (by 30.2 per cent less).

Investment of enterprises engaged in water collection, treatment and supply accounted for 57.3, in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply – 17 per cent of total investment in environmental protection. As regards manufacturing, the largest share of environmental protection investment was allocated by enterprises engaged in manufacture of food products – EUR 21.2 million.

In 2019, current expenditure totalled EUR 114.2 million and, compared to 2018, grew by 7.4 per cent. As regards manufacturing, the largest share of current expenditure was incurred by manufacturers of food products – EUR 12.7 million.
