In 2021, in the production of primary energy, firewood, wood and agricultural waste accounted for the main part – 62.3 per cent, hydropower, wind, solar, geothermal energy and energy from chemical processes – 17 per cent.

In 2021, the largest proportion in gross inland fuel and energy consumption was made up of crude oil and petroleum products (36.7 per cent) and natural gas (23.7 per cent).

Final consumption of fuel and energy, 2017–2021
Terajoule
In 2021, against 2020, final energy consumption decreased by 7.2 per cent. Among final consumers, transport sector predominated – 38.7 per cent of energy was consumed in this sector. In 2021, against 2020, consumption of energy in this sector decreased by 1.2 per cent. In households, energy consumption accounted for 28.5 per cent, which is by 13.7 less than in 2020.

Energy commodities balances
In 2021, against 2020, electricity demand in Lithuania increased by 6 per cent and amounted to 14.1 TWh. In 2021, to satisfy the country’s needs, 9 TWh of electricity was imported (or 64 per cent of the total required electricity). 5.1 TWh of electricity was produced in Lithuania, which is by 8 per cent less than in 2020. In 2021, electricity produced from the renewable energy resources accounted half of the total electricity produced.
