In 2020. environmental protection investment of enterprises amounted to EUR 170.922.9 thousand. which is by 26.3 per cent more than in 2019.

Investment in water protection resources and wastewater management accounted for the largest share of expenditure on environmental protection: in 2020, it amounted to EUR 100.8 million, which is by 42.1 per cent more than in 2019. Investment in air protection amounted to EUR 22.4 million (by 38.8 per cent less than in 2019), waste treatment – EUR 23 million (by 13.2 per cent more), other environment protection activity – EUR 24.7 million (by 333.2 per cent more).

In 2020, environmental protection expenditure of Lithuanian enterprises1 amounted to EUR 243.3 million, which is by 10.4 per cent more than in 2019.

Expenditure on water protection accounted for the largest share of expenditure on environmental protection: in 2020, it amounted to EUR 174.6 million, which is by 17.8 per cent more than in 2019. Expenditure on air protection of industrial enterprises amounted to EUR 20.1 million (by 47.5 per cent less than in 2019), waste treatment – EUR 44.7 million (by 42.7 per cent more), other environment protection activity – EUR 3.9 million (by 47.6 per cent more).

In 2020, compared to 2019, investment in environmental protection by enterprises grew by 1.5 per cent and amounted to EUR 107.8 million or 44.3 per cent of total environmental protection expenditure of industrial enterprises.

Investment in air protection amounted to EUR 17.1 million (by 51.8 per cent less than in 2019), water protection – EUR 89.4 million (by 29.4 per cent more), waste collection and management – EUR 0.6 million (by 45.4 per cent less).

Investment of enterprises engaged in water collection, treatment and supply accounted for 59.8, in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply – 28.4 per cent of total investment in environmental protection. As regards manufacturing, the largest share of environmental protection investment was allocated by enterprises engaged in manufacture of furniture – EUR 3.6 million.

In 2020, current expenditure totalled EUR 135.5 million and, compared to 2019, grew by 18.7 per cent. As regards manufacturing, the largest share of current expenditure was incurred by manufacturers of food products – EUR 14 million.
