In 2020, in the production of primary energy, firewood, wood and agricultural waste accounted for the main part – 62.8 per cent, hydropower, wind, solar, geothermal energy and energy from chemical processes – 18.3 per cent.

In 2020, the largest proportion in gross inland fuel and energy consumption was made up of crude oil and petroleum products (37.3 per cent) and natural gas (26.2 per cent).

In 2020, against 2019, final energy consumption decreased by 4.3 per cent. Among final consumers, transport sector predominated – 41 per cent of energy was consumed in this sector. In 2020, against 2019, consumption of energy in this sector decreased by 4.1 per cent. In households, energy consumption accounted for 26.8 per cent, which is by 0.9 less than in 2019.

Energy commodities balances

 

In 2020, against 2019, electricity demand in Lithuania increased by 0.8 per cent and amounted to 13.4 TWh. In 2020, to satisfy the country’s needs, 7.9 per cent of electricity was imported (or 58.9 per cent of the total required electricity). 5.5 TWh of electricity was produced in Lithuania, which is by 38.9 per cent more than in 2019. In 2020, electricity produced from the renewable energy resources accounted for 46.7 per cent of the total electricity produced.
