In 2022, environmental conservation expenditure of Lithuanian enterprises1 amounted to EUR 949.2 million and, compared to 2021, increased by 33.3 per cent.

Expenditure on waste collection and management accounted for the largest share of environmental conservation expenditure. In 2022, such expenditure amounted to EUR 544.3 million and, compared to 2021, increased by 26.7 per cent. In 2022, expenditure on protection of water resources and wastewater management amounted to EUR 222.9 million (a year-on-year increase of 15.6 per cent), expenditure on energy production from renewable energy resources – EUR 116.1 million (3.5 times more than a year ago). Such an increase in expenditure on energy production from renewable energy sources in 2022 was determined by environmental conservation expenditure incurred by enterprises engaged in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply. Enterprise expenditure on air protection amounted to EUR 34.6 million (a year-on-year increase of 0.4 per cent), other environmental protection activity – EUR 21.3 million (a year-on-year increase of 32.2 per cent), heat/energy saving and management – EUR 10 million (a year-on-year increase of 61.4 per cent).
In 2022, compared to 2021, enterprise investment in environmental conservation decreased by 35.6 per cent and amounted to EUR 197.2 million, or 20.8 per cent of total enterprise expenditure on environmental conservation.
Investment in protection of water resources and wastewater management accounted for 43, waste collection and management – 21.5 per cent of total enterprise investment in environmental conservation. Investment in air protection made up 13.5, energy production from renewable energy resources – 14.2, heat/energy saving and management – 3.4 per cent of total enterprise investment in environmental conservation.
Investment of enterprises engaged in water collection, treatment and supply as well as manufacturing accounted for 56.3 per cent of total enterprise investment in environmental conservation. As regards manufacturing, the largest share of environmental conservation investment was allocated by enterprises engaged in manufacturing of food products and other non-metallic mineral products – EUR 12.6 million.

In 2022, current expenditure totalled EUR 752 billion and, compared to 2021, grew by 84.9 per cent. As regards manufacturing, the largest share of current expenditure was incurred by manufacturers of food products – EUR 21.8 million.
