Internet of Things in households
In 2020, 10 per cent of population aged 16–74 used at least one Internet‑connected home alarm system, lighting/energy management system, home appliance or virtual assistant. Most people (4.9 per cent) were using home alarm systems, smoke detectors, security cameras, door locks or other Internet‑connected security solutions for home. 4.5 per cent of persons used Internet‑connected home appliances such as robot vacuums, fridges, ovens, coffee machines. The largest number of persons using Internet‑connected home systems or home appliances was recorded in the 25–34 and 35–44 age groups (18 and 17 per cent respectively), the smallest – in the 65–74 age group (less than 1 per cent).

3.2 per cent of persons aged 16–74 who did not use the said systems or appliances stated that they were unaware that such devices or systems existed. The majority of population (88 per cent) had no need to use Internet‑connected home systems and appliances, 22 per cent – stated that they were too expensive, 12 per cent – indicated lack of skills as a reason for not using them.

In 2020, 12 per cent of population aged 16–84 used smart watch, fitness band, virtual reality headset, safety‑trackers, Internet‑connected accessories, clothes or shoes, 5 per cent – built‑in wireless Internet connection in a car. Smart devices were mostly used by young people.

Internet of Things in enterprises
At the beginning of 2020, 19.4 per cent of enterprises used Internet of Things. 5.6 per cent of enterprises used smart meters, lamps or thermostats to optimize energy consumption, 6.6 per cent – sensors, RFID, IP tags or Internet-controlled cameras to improve customer service, 10.7 per cent – movement or maintenance sensors to track vehicles, 3.2 per cent – sensors or RFID tags to automate production processes or manage logistics, 7.3 per cent – other Internet of Things devices or systems.
