In 2020, 77 per cent of households had personal computers, 82 per cent – Internet access at home. Over a year, proportion of households having personal computers remained unchanged, while proportion of households having Internet access grew by 0.6 percentage points. In urban areas, households having computers and Internet access at home accounted for 80 and 84 per cent respectively, in rural areas – 70 and 78 per cent respectively.
Almost all households having Internet access at home used broadband connection. 79 per cent of households having Internet access at home used broadband fixed wired or wireless connection, 66 per cent – mobile connection networks.

In 2019, 18.5 per cent of households had no Internet access. Most (66 per cent) households who did not use the Internet at home stated that they did not need the Internet. Other reasons for not using the Internet at home: lack of necessary knowledge (44 per cent) and expensive equipment (18 per cent).

In 2020, smartphones were used by 78 per cent of persons aged 16–74. In the 16–24 age group, smartphones were used by almost all (98 per cent) persons, in the 65–74 age group – by 35 per cent of people.

Connection used to access the Internet at home
Business
At the beginning of 2020, all manufacturing and service enterprises having 10 and more employees used computers and the Internet. Fixed Internet connection was used by 93.4 per cent of enterprises (in 2019, 96.7 per cent). In 2019, broadband mobile connection provided via mobile operators’ networks was used by 85.7 per cent of enterprises (in 2018, 86.1 per cent).

The Internet becomes faster: download speed of 100–500 Mbit/s was used by 30.6 per cent of enterprises.

At the beginning of 2020, the Internet was used for daily work at least once a week by 54.5 per cent of persons employed (in 2019, 46.9 per cent). The need to use the Internet is growing in all areas: from manufacturing and service enterprises to services sector. The Internet was used for daily activities by 64.1 per cent of the persons employed in service enterprises and by 40.9 per cent of those working in manufacturing enterprises (in 2019, 55.9 and 34.3 per cent respectively).

An increase in the Internet usage in manufacturing and service enterprises was recorded for all enterprise size groups: 52.8 per cent – in large enterprises, 54.2 per cent – in medium-sized enterprises, 56.9 per cent – in small-sized enterprises (in 2019, 45.7, 46.9 and 48.6 per cent respectively).

At the beginning of 2020, computers and the Internet was used for work purposes by, respectively, 90.2 and 88.4 per cent of employees of institutions (at the beginning of 2018, 83.9 and 81.5 per cent respectively).

At the beginning of 2019, mobile Internet access was used for work purposes by 27.7 per cent of the employed (in 2018, 23.3 per cent).

Websites
At the beginning of 2020, 78.1 per cent of enterprises had websites (in 2019, 80 per cent): almost all (99.5 per cent) large enterprises (having more than 250 employees) and three out of four (74.5 per cent) small-sized enterprises (having 10–49 employees). 52.6 per cent of enterprises published catalogues and pricelists of their products on their websites, 17.8 per cent – offered an opportunity to order products or services via the Internet, 11.4 per cent – allowed the delivery tracking online (at the beginning of 2019, 54.4, 21.7, and 12.3 per cent respectively), 30.8 per cent – provided links to their social network profiles (in 2019, 30.8 per cent).

At the beginning of 2018, 35.3 per cent of enterprises paid to advertise on the Internet (at the beginning of 2016, 32.5 per cent). 27.7 per cent of enterprises paid for advertising based on web page content or keywords that the users searched for, 12.9 per cent – for advertising based on monitoring of the Internet user activity or profile, 9.2 per cent – for advertising based on location of the Internet users (mobile advertising) (at the beginning of 2016, 26.2, 11.8 and 8.3 per cent respectively).
