Expenditure on environmental protection
Investments of Lithuanian enterprises1 in environmental conservation in 20212 amounted to EUR 305 million 491.9 thousand, which accounted for 75.1 per cent of all enterprises’ expenditure for environmental protection and resource management.

Investment in water protection resources and wastewater management amounted to EUR 237.1 million, which accounted for 77.6 per cent all enterprises’ investments for environmental protection. Investments in air protection amounted to EUR 29.3 million and increased by 30.8 per cent compared to 2021. Investments in energy production from renewable resources amounted to EUR 30.8 million, heat/energy saving and management – EUR 5.7 million.

In 20212, environmental protection expenditure and resource management of Lithuanian enterprises3 amounted to EUR 388 million.
Environmental protection and resource management expenditure of industrial enterprises, 2015–2021
Expenditure on water protection resources and wastewater management as well as waste collection and management accounted for the largest share of expenditure on environmental protection: in 2021, it amounted to EUR 314.6 million, which is by 43.5 per cent more than in 2020. Expenditure on air protection of industrial enterprises amounted to EUR 30.3 million (by 51.1 per cent more than in 2020), other environment protection activity EUR 4.7 million (by 21.7 per cent more). Energy production from renewable resources amounted to EUR 32.5 million, heat/energy saving and management EUR 5.9 million.

In 2021, investment in environmental protection by enterprises amounted to EUR 244.4 million which accounted for 63 per cent of total environmental protection expenditure of industrial enterprises.
Investment in water protection resources and wastewater management as well as waste collection and management amounted to EUR 179. million, which accounted for 73.5 per cent of total environmental protection investment of industrial enterprises. Investment in air protection amounted to EUR 26.9 million (by 57.5 per cent more than in 2020). Investment in energy production from renewable resources amounted to EUR 30.7 million, heat/energy saving and management amounted to EUR 5.5 million.
Investment of enterprises engaged in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply and water collection treatment and supply accounted for 88.6 per cent of total investment in environmental protection. As regards manufacturing, the largest share of environmental protection investment was allocated by enterprises engaged in manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, manufacture of chemicals and chemical products –EUR 12.4 million.

In 2021, current expenditure totalled EUR 143.6 million. As regards manufacturing, the largest share of current expenditure was incurred by manufacturers of food products – EUR 14.3 million.
