In 2020, 83 per cent of persons aged 16–74 used the Internet (in 2019, 82 per cent). The Internet is less often used by older persons than the youth. In the 16–24 age group, persons using the Internet accounted for 99 per cent, in the 65–74 age group – 46 per cent. Technologies gain in popularity in all age groups. Compared to the previous year, the number of persons aged 65–74 using the Internet grew by 6 percentage points.
74 per cent of persons aged 16–74 used the Internet daily (90 per cent of internauts in this age group), 8 per cent – at least once a week but not daily (12 per cent of internauts in this age group). Thus, persons using the Internet at least once a week accounted for 82 per cent of population aged 16–74, or 99 per cent of internauts in this age group.

The Internet was mainly used for search for information, communication, entertainment and banking: 79 per cent of persons aged 16–74 (95 per cent of internauts in this age group) used the Internet for communication, 74 per cent (89 per cent of internauts) – for reading news, 71 per cent (85 per cent of the internauts) – for leisure (watching movies or TV shows, listening to music, playing or downloading games), 68 per cent (81 per cent of the internauts) – for the Internet banking services. 27 per cent (33 per cent of internauts in this age group) used the Internet for learning, upskilling or self-education purposes.

Based on the Survey 2019 results, persons aged 16–74 who used the Internet for booking accommodation and transport services provided by private individuals in the period of 12 months before the survey accounted for 15 per cent each. Services were usually booked via dedicated websites or using mobile applications designed to arrange these services. In this way, accommodation services were booked by 10, transport services – 12 per cent of population. Other websites or apps (including social networks) were used to arrange accommodation services by 7, transport services – 5 per cent of population. Booking of these services was most common among the population aged 25–34: accommodation services were booked by 31, transport services – 30 per cent of persons in this age group. In the 65–74 age group, persons who used the Internet to arrange accommodation and transport services accounted for 2 per cent each.

In 2020, 58 per cent of population aged 16–74 (69 per cent of internauts in this age group) used electronic services provided by public authorities or other public service institutions in the last 12 months. 54 per cent of population searched for information on the websites of the institutions, 45 per cent – filled in and submitted official forms online. Persons who did not fill in and submit official forms online indicated that the main reason was that no official forms were required (75 per cent of internauts who did not fill official forms). Other reasons indicated were lack of knowledge and skills, concern about personal data security.

Based on data of the Information Society Development Committee, in 2019, income tax return was filed online by 29 per cent of population aged 16–74; almost one in four people (23 per cent) used health-related online services.

Based on data of the Information Society Development Committee, in 2019, 64 per cent of population considered that electronic communication with public institutions was secure, 28 per cent – had a neutral opinion, 4 per cent – stated that they would rather distrust than trust them.

Business
In 2019, 97.7 per cent of enterprises used information from the websites of public authorities (in 2018, 93.9 per cent): 89.3 per cent – in administrative processes, 40.4 per cent – for commercial activities, 40.5 per cent – to create or provide electronic services (in 2018, 84.5, 40.6, and 42.5 per cent respectively).

Electronic social media tools were used for work purposes by 54.8 per cent of enterprises in 2019: 51 per cent of enterprises had accounts in social networks, 19 per cent – disseminated information on multimedia content exchange websites, 12.4 per cent – used wiki-based knowledge exchange systems, 9.1 per cent – had enterprise blogs.
