In 2021, the main source of cash income of two out of three (65 per cent) households was income from employment. Income from paid employment was indicated as the main source of income by 58 per cent of households. 34 per cent of households indicated social transfers as the main source of income. Compared to 2020, relative share of households living on income from employment slightly decreased, share of households living on social transfers increased respectively.
Particularly large number of persons living on social transfers was recorded in households composed of a single person and in those composed of couple without children. Old-age benefits were indicated as the main source of income by 44 per cent of households composed of a single person and by 33 per cent of households composed of couple without children, while other social transfers – by 9 and 3 per cent respectively.
In 2021, social transfers were indicated as the main source of income by one third of households in urban and rural areas; compared to 2020, the said share remained almost unchanged. Social transfers were indicated as the main source of income by 31 per cent of households living in the major cities and by 39 per cent of household living in other towns.
