In 2019, 15,374 building permits of dwellings in residential buildings were granted in the country. The useful floor area of the new dwellings whose construction was authorized amounted to 1.5 million m². Compared to 2018, the number of dwellings whose construction was authorized decreased by 7.1 per cent, the useful floor area of the dwellings authorised – 6.3 per cent.

In 2019, the total floor area of the new non-residential buildings whose construction was authorized amounted to 1.6 million m² in the country, i.e. by 3.9 per cent less than a year ago. In terms of the total floor area, the largest share of building permits issued were those for the construction of industrial buildings and warehouses (42.6 per cent) and office buildings (20.7 per cent).

In 2019, there were 12,577 new buildings completed in the country, with a useful floor area of 1.3 million m². Compared to 2018, the number of new buildings completed increased by 3.1 per cent, while the useful floor area of such dwellings decreased by 0.1 per cent. The construction of individual houses was predominant in the country: 56.2 per cent of all new dwellings were completed in individual houses; blocks of flats accounted for 43.8 per cent.

In 2019, in our country, the total floor area of the new non-residential buildings completed amounted to 1.1 million m² and, compared to 2018, increased by 13.2 per cent. In terms of the total floor area, new industrial buildings and warehouses (506.8 thousand m²) and office buildings (155 thousand m²) completed accounted for the largest share.

In 2019, 9,858 new dwellings were started, of which 51.8 per cent – in blocks of flats; the useful floor area of the new dwellings whose construction was started amounted to 891.7 thousand m² in the country. Compared to 2018, the number of such dwellings decreased by 31.5 per cent, and the useful floor area of dwellings – 28.7 per cent.

In 2019, the total floor area of the new non-residential buildings started amounted to 1.1 million m², which is by 13 per cent less than in 2018. In terms of the total floor area, new industrial buildings and warehouses (477.7 thousand m²) and office buildings (240 thousand m²) whose construction was started accounted for the largest share.

Statistical information on construction work carried out prepared using short-term statistics survey data.
In 2019, the volume of construction work carried out within the country and abroad amounted to EUR 3.8 billion; against 2018, it increased by 9.2 per cent at constant prices.
In 2019, against 2018, the volume of construction work carried out within the country increased by 8.3 per cent, and abroad – 17.6 per cent at constant prices.

Over the year, (December 2019, against December 2018), construction input prices increased by 3.1 per cent. This was determined by an increase in average gross hourly earnings (7.5 per cent), prices of construction materials and products (1.4 per cent) and hourly labour costs on operation of construction machines and mechanisms (2.1 per cent).
As for buildings and structures, the largest increase in prices over a year was observed for the construction of residential buildings – 3.9 per cent. Renovation of buildings went up in price by 3.6 per cent.

Statistical information on the past, present or future changes in the economic activities of construction enterprises, construction confidence indicator, characterising changes and tendencies of construction activity has been prepared by applying data of the statistical survey of construction enterprises, also known as business opinion survey. Statistical survey is intended for short-term economic analysis and expectations, i.e. to foresee economic activity relations and growth periods, to establish present economic state in the country and trend of business activity changes. More specifically, such data are increasingly used in predicting turning points in the economic cycle.
