In 2019, based on provisional data, there were 267.4 thousand enterprises operating in the country. Over the year, the number of enterprises increased by 3.2 per cent, over a ten-year period – twice. The main activity of most (21 per cent) enterprises was trade; 13 per cent of enterprises provided professional, scientific and technical services for business, 12 per cent were engaged in construction, almost 8 per cent each – in transportation and storage and manufacturing.

The largest part (94.3 per cent) of non-financial enterprises was very small enterprises (0–9 persons employed). Small (10–49 persons employed) enterprises accounted for 4.7 per cent, middle (50–249 persons employed) – 0.9 per cent and 0.1 per cent – large (250 and over persons employed) enterprises.

The most part – two thirds (66.1 per cent) – of non-financial enterprises accounted for natural persons carrying out economic activity (by patent or certificate), a quarter (25.3 per cent) – closed stock companies. Over the year, the number of natural persons carrying out economic activity has grown by 7.9 thousand or 4.7 per cent, over a ten-year period – 2.7 times; the number of closed stock companies – by 415 companies or 0.6 per cent, over a ten-year period – 44 per cent.

   Main structural indicators of non-financial enterprises 


1 million 107 thousand persons were employed in non-financial enterprises, 962.2 thousand of them – employees. Over the year, the number of employed persons increased by 30.2 thousand (by 2.8 per cent). Average labour costs per hour actually worked amounted to EUR 9.1 (by 8.2 per cent more than a year ago). The highest (EUR 16.2) labour costs were recorded in the enterprises engaged in information and communication activities, the lowest (EUR 5.6) – repair of computers and personal and household goods and other personal service activities.

Over a ten-year period, the number of persons employed in non-financial enterprises increased by 3.4 per cent, turnover grew by 91 per cent, the value added (at factor cost) – almost by 2.5 times.

Employees of non-financial enterprises

 

In 2016, the turnover of enterprises amounted almost to EUR 101 billion and, compared to 2018, increased by EUR 6.3 billion (6.6 per cent). The largest value added (at factor cost) was EUR 24 billion (by EUR 2.3 billion, or 10.8 per cent more than in 2018).

Over a ten-year period, the turnover of non-financial enterprises increased by 91 per cent.

The largest part (31 per cent) of the persons employed worked in very small enterprises and generated the smallest (19 per cent) proportion of the value added (at factor cost) of all non-financial enterprises. Persons employed in large enterprises accounted for 26 per cent of all employed persons, and the proportion of the value added (at factor cost) generated by them stood at almost 35 per cent.

Over a ten-year period, the value added (at factor cost) generated by non-financial enterprises (at factor cost) increased by nearly 1.5 times.

In 2019, the average turnover per hour worked totalled EUR 68.2. Over the year, this amount increased by 4.6 per cent, over a ten-year period – 49.2 per cent. The average turnover per year by one conditional employee (after the recalculation into a full-time employee) totalled EUR 118 thousand. Over the year, income of one conditional employee increased by 4.4 per cent, over a ten-year period – 48 per cent.

In 2019, the average value added (at factor cost) per hour actually worked amounted to EUR 16.2. Over the year, this amount increased by 8.7 per cent, over a ten-year period – almost by 93 per cent. The average value added per year by one conditional employee (after the recalculation into a full-time employee) totalled EUR 28.1 thousand. Over the year, value added of one conditional employee increased by 8.5 per cent, over a ten-year period – 91 per cent.

The value added per hour generated by employees of very small enterprises amounted to EUR 18.8, large enterprises – EUR 17.8.

Major proportion – EUR 48.7 – of the value added per hour was generated in the real estate activities; EUR 38.1 – electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply activities, EUR 27 – information and communication enterprises, while the smallest proportion – EUR 8.1 – accommodation and food service enterprises.

In 2019, two thirds (65.8 per cent) of enterprises earned the largest profit (EUR 7 billion). Other enterprises were loss-making (with the loss of almost EUR 1.3 billion). Over the year, the proportion of profitable enterprises increased by 1.4 percentage points, and their profit grew by 14.5 per cent. Loss incurred remained almost stable.

In 2019, the net profit of enterprises (except individual enterprises and natural persons carrying out economic activity) accounted for 5.3 per cent, i.e. on average EUR 5.3 per EUR 100 income. Enterprises engaged in real estate activities were most profitable (their profit reached 31.3 per cent).
