In 2019, the number of small and medium-sized enterprises (non-financial enterprises, except natural persons carrying out economic activity) (SMEs) increased by 0.4 per cent. The largest proportion (83 per cent) of them was very small enterprises (0–9 person employed). Small (10–49 persons employed) enterprises accounted for 14 per cent, middle (50–249 person employed) – 3 per cent. Over the year, the number of persons employed in SMEs increased by 2.2 per cent.
Against 2018, the turnover of SMEs totalled almost EUR 64.3 billion, and increased by 6.3 per cent. Middle and very small enterprises earned 37 per cent each. Turnover of very small enterprises accounted for 26 per cent.
SMEs earned EUR 3.3 billion net profit, i.e. almost by EUR 0.4 billion, or 13.5 per cent, more than a year ago. Net profitability of such enterprises reached 5.2 per cent (2018, 4.8 per cent). Very small enterprises were most profitable, their profitability accounted for 7.2 per cent.
In 2019, exports of goods of SMEs amounted to EUR 11.4 billion and, against 2018, increased by 6.5 per cent.
