In 2021, the turnover (VAT excluded) of retail and wholesale trade enterprises, of wholesale and reatail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles and of food and beverage service enterprises increased.
In 2021, against 2020, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased by 12.7 per cent at constant prices. Against the previous year, the turnover of retail trade enterprises trading in food products, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 5.5 per cent, of those trading in non-food products – by 19.1 per cent, of those engaged in retail trade of automotive fuel – by 13.5 per cent at constant prices.
Against 2020, the turnover of enterprises engaged in the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles increased by 24.8 per cent at constant prices.
In 2021, against 2020, the turnover of food and beverage service enterprises increased by 19.4 per cent at constant prices.
In 2021, the turnover of wholesale enterprises, against the previous year, increased by 12.5 per cent at constant prices.

In 2021, according to the final data obtained from customs declarations and Intrastat reporting data, exports from Lithuania amounted to EUR 34.58 billion in terms of commodity value, imports to Lithuania – EUR 37.77 billion. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to EUR 21.47 billion. The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to EUR 3.20 billion.
In 2021, compared to the same period of 2020, exports increased by 20.5, imports – 29.6 per cent.
In 2021, Lithuania mainly exported products of the chemical and allied industries (15.1 per cent), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (13.6 per cent) and mineral products (10.3 per cent); the largest imports were in machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (17.9 per cent), mineral products (17.4 per cent), and chemical and allied products (12.2 per cent). As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within products of the chemical and allied industries (13.9 per cent), miscellaneous manufactured articles (12.5 per cent), petroleum products (12.4 per cent), prepared foodstuffs, beverages and spirits, tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (8.7 per cent).
In 2021, the most important Lithuania’s partners in exports were Russia (10.8 per cent), Latvia (9.3 per cent), Germany (8.2 per cent), Poland (7.9 per cent), while in imports – Germany (12.8 per cent), Poland (12.1 per cent), Russia (11.9 per cent), Latvia (7.7 per cent). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Germany (10.1 per cent), the United States (9.1 per cent), Poland (7.7 per cent), Latvia (6.8 per cent), and the Netherlands (6.3 per cent). The biggest proportion of goods was exported to the EU member states – 57.6 per cent of total exports from Lithuania. The biggest proportion of imports was also from the EU member states – 67.7 per cent of total imports to Lithuania.

Statistical information on the past, present or future changes in the economic activities of retail trade enterprises, retail trade confidence indicator that characterizes changes and tendencies of trade activity has been prepared by applying data of the statistical survey of trade enterprises, also known as business opinion survey. Statistical survey is intended for short-term economic analysis and forecast, i.e. to foresee economic activity relations and growth periods, to establish present economic state in the country and trend of business activity changes. More specifically, such data are increasingly used in predicting turning points in the economic cycle.
