In 2022, household disposable income totalled, on average, EUR 1,504 per month, while household disposable income per capita – EUR 751 per month. Compared to 2021, disposable income increased by 2.7 per cent. In the major cities, disposable income of a household was by 45.7 per cent larger than in other towns and by 21.5 per cent larger than in rural areas. In order to compare income of households of different size and composition, the equivalised disposable income is calculated (the equivalised disposable income is calculated using the modified OECD equivalence scale), which in 2022 totalled EUR 1,065 per month. The largest equivalised disposable income were recorded in households composed of two adults younger than 65 years of age (EUR 1,350) and in those composed of two adults with one child  (EUR 1,273), while the smallest – in households composed of one adult with children and in those composed of a single person (EUR 746 and EUR 848 respectively).

In 2022, income from paid employment was indicated as the main source of income by 57 per cent of households. The equivalised disposable income of these households exceeded the average income by 11 per cent. Old‑age pension was indicated as the main source of income by 26 per cent of households; their income per equivalent adult made up 53 per cent of the average income. Other social transfers were indicated as the main source of income by 8 per cent of households; their income per equivalent adult made up 42 per cent of the average income.

In 2022, disposable income in cash per household averaged EUR 1,491 per month, equivalised disposable income in cash – EUR 1,056 per month. Compared to 2021, disposable income in cash per household increased by 2.9 per cent.

Disposable income in kind was significant in rural households only, where it accounted for 1.4 per cent of the total disposable income (in urban households, 0.6 per cent only). In terms of calculation of the inequality of income and at‑risk-of-poverty indicators, disposable income in kind is not taken into account.
