Chronic health problems

During the survey, 37 per cent of the population aged 16 and older indicated being ill with some chronic illness or having long-term health problems (lasting for at least 6 months). The proportion of people with chronic illnesses and long-term health problems is increasing with age. 77 per cent of persons aged 65 and older and 8 per cent of persons aged 16–24 had long-term health problems.

Chronic illness or other long-term health problems limit the usual activities. 28 per cent of persons aged 16 or older stated that due to illness or long-term health problems their activity was restricted, compared to usual activity of a person, for at least 6 months, of them 6 per cent – severely restricted. Long-term health problems were more often indicated by older persons and such problems limited their activity more severely. 14 per cent of population aged 65 and older indicated that due to health problems their activity was severely limited, compared to usual activity of a person, 45 per cent – slightly limited, while among persons aged 16–24 – 8 per cent slightly limited.
