Although 90 per cent of households were living in their own houses or apartments, 22 per cent of the population were living in dwellings with less than one room per person¹. Among households without children, 5 per cent were living in such dwellings, while among those with children – as much as 40 per cent.

Household expenditure on housing maintenance (rent, payment for electricity, gas, heating, water supply or other utilities, interest on mortgage, housing insurance, allowances for heating and water supply) made up 10.2 per cent of the disposable income. Compared to 2018, share of disposable income spent on housing maintenance remained almost unchanged (decreased by 0.1 percentage point). Housing maintenance was a very heavy burden for 19 per cent of households, while 21 per cent stated that it was not a burden at all. The largest share of disposable income spent on housing maintenance was recorded for one-person households (16.2 per cent) and households consisting of one adult with dependent children (15.1 per cent), the smallest – households consisting of three or more adults without children (6.8 per cent). Housing expenditure of households living below the at-risk-of-poverty threshold accounted for 27.3 per cent of disposable income.
