In 2019, household disposable income totalled, on average, EUR 1,160 per month, while household disposable income per capita – EUR 536 per month. Compared to 2018, disposable income increased by 9.1 per cent. In the major cities, disposable income of a household was by 41.4 per cent larger than in other towns and by 38.5 per cent larger than in rural areas. In order to compare income of households of different size and composition, the equivalised disposable income is calculated (the equivalised disposable income is calculated using the modified OECD equivalence scale), which in 2019 totalled EUR 779 per month. The largest equivalised disposable income were recorded in households composed of two adults younger than 65 years of age (EUR 972) and in those composed of three or more adults without children (EUR 936), while the smallest – in households composed of one adult with children and in those composed of a single person (EUR 517 and EUR 568 respectively).
In 2019, income from paid employment was indicated as the main source of income by 56 per cent of households. The equivalised disposable income of these households exceeded the average income by 10 per cent. Old-age pension was indicated as the main source of income by 28 per cent of households; their income per equivalent adult made up 58 per cent of the average income. Other social transfers were indicated as the main source of income by 8 per cent of households; their income per equivalent adult made up 42 per cent of the average income.

Equivalised income per month
In 2019, disposable income in cash per household averaged EUR 1,151 per month, equivalised disposable income in cash – EUR 772 per month. Compared to 2018, disposable income in cash per household increased by 9.4 per cent.
Disposable income in kind was significant in rural households only, where it accounted for 1.5 per cent of the total disposable income (in urban households, 0.5 per cent only). In terms of calculation of the inequality of income and at-risk-of-poverty indicators, disposable income in kind is not taken into account.
