Chronic health problems

During the survey, 37 per cent of population aged 16 and older indicated being ill with some chronic illness or having long-term health problems (lasting for at least 6 months) (in 2018, 36 per cent). The proportion of people with chronic illnesses and long-term health problems is increasing with age. 76 per cent of persons aged 65 and older and 11 per cent of persons aged 16–24 had long-term health problems.

Chronic illness or other long-term health problems limit the usual activities. 32 per cent of persons aged 16 or older stated that due to illness or long-term health problems their activity was restricted, compared to usual activity of a person, for at least 6 months, of them 7 per cent – severely restricted. Long-term health problems were more often indicated by older persons and such problems limited their activity more severely. 2 per cent of population aged 16–24 indicated that due to health problems their activity was severely limited, compared to usual activity of a person, 9 per cent – slightly limited, while among persons aged 65 and older – 17 and 48 per cent respectively.
