Impact of social transfers on the absolute poverty rate

The difference between absolute poverty rate before and after social transfers shows the impact of social transfers on reduction of absolute poverty. With the deduction of social transfers (except old-age and survivors’ benefits) from disposable income, absolute poverty rate would increase to 10.6 per cent in 2021. Social transfers had the greatest impact on the absolute poverty rate for children: in 2021, after the deduction of social transfers, the absolute poverty rate for children under 18 would increase from 3.9 to 16.6 per cent.
