In order to meet consumption needs, households used not only their own but also borrowed funds. In 2021, 17.1 per cent of households had a consumer loan, study loan, were indebted for goods or services acquired by hire-purchase agreement. 16.8 per cent of urban households and 18 per cent of rural households had some loan (except housing loan). Compared to 2020, the share of households having a loan increased by 0.9 percentage points. 31 per cent of households having loans stated that the repayment of a loan is not a financial burden, 11 per cent – a very heavy burden. In 2020, repayment of a loan was not considered as a burden by 25 per cent of households having a loan.

3 per cent of households living on disposable income were in a very difficult situation, i.e. were struggling to make ends meet, 12 per cent – were in a difficult situation, while 11 per cent – did not face the said problems. The most difficult situation was observed in one-person households and households comprising lone parent with children aged 25 and older: 5 per cent each of such households indicated facing a very difficult situation.
