With the view of ensuring comparability of the EU statistics on culture and taking into account the specificities of cultural sector, in 2012, the European statistics experts working group prepared recommendations for statistics on culture. Following these recommendations, the State Data Agency has assessed and publishes the country’s economic indicators on the culture sector: the value added generated in the cultural sector, output and employed population in the cultural sector.

In 2021, the gross value added generated in the cultural sector amounted to EUR 1,000.9 million, or 2 per cent of the country’s gross value added. Compared to 2020, the value added generated in the cultural sector increased by EUR 73.4 million, or 7.9 per cent. When assessing the contribution of not only the cultural sector but also cultural and creative industries to the country's economy, it is much more significant.
