The chapter provides statistical information on the industrial production changes and structure by market. Statistical information is based on the data of the short-term statistics survey on industrial enterprises. The survey covers industrial enterprises of all types and forms of ownership.

For the calculation of indices and changes in the value (VAT and excise excluded) of industrial production, a producer price index is used.


Over the year (December 2020, against December 2019), prices for the total industrial production sold decreased by 7.9 per cent, refined petroleum products excluded – by 2.3 per cent.

Over the year, prices for industrial production sold on the Lithuanian market decreased by 5.6 per cent, refined petroleum products excluded – 3.3 per cent.

Prices for industrial production sold on the non-Lithuanian market decreased by 9.4 per cent, refined petroleum products excluded – by 1.6 per cent.

The overall price change for industrial production sold on the euro area market decreased by 11 per cent, on the non‑euro area market – 8.3 per cent.

In 2020, the value of industrial production sold totalled EUR 21.3 billion at current prices. Against 2019, the value of industrial production, at constant prices, decreased by 1.9 per cent, mining and quarrying, as well as manufacturing – 1.9 per cent. The share of production sold on the non-Lithuanian market accounted for 62.5 per cent.

Industrial production increased in the enterprises engaged in manufacture of other transport equipment (41.3 per cent), computer, electronic and optical products (28.6 per cent), repair and installation of machinery and equipment (27 per cent), fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (16.9 per cent), textiles (9.2 per cent).

The volume of industrial production decreased in the enterprises engaged in manufacture of base metals (42.6 per cent), leather and related products (17.1 per cent) and other manufacturing (16.8 per cent).

Statistical information on the past, present or future changes in the economic activities of enterprises, industrial confidence indicator, characterising changes and tendencies of economic activity has been prepared by applying data of the statistical survey, also known as business opinion survey. Statistical survey is intended for short-term economic analysis and expectations, i.e. to foresee economic activity relations and growth periods, to establish present economic state in the country and trend of business activity changes. More specifically, such survey data are increasingly used in predicting turning points in the economic cycle.
