In 2020, building permits for construction of 15,155 dwellings in residential buildings were granted in the country. The useful floor area of the new dwellings whose construction was authorized amounted to 1.5 million m². Compared to 2019, the number of dwellings whose construction was authorized decreased by 0.7 per cent, the useful floor area of the dwellings authorised increased by 5.7 per cent.

In 2020, the total floor area of the new non-residential buildings whose construction was authorized in the country amounted to 1.5 million m², i.e. by 4.9 per cent less than a year ago. In terms of the total floor area, the largest share of building permits issued were those for the construction of industrial buildings and warehouses (39.7 per cent) and office buildings (15.3 per cent).

In 2020, there were 13,903 new buildings completed in the country, with a useful floor area of 1.4 million m². Compared to 2019, the number of new dwellings completed increased by 10.6 per cent, the useful floor area of such dwellings – by 5.3 per cent. The construction of individual houses was predominant in the country: 54.8 per cent of all new dwellings were completed in individual houses; blocks of flats accounted for 45.2 per cent.

In 2020, the total floor area of the new non-residential buildings completed in our country amounted to 1.2 million m² and, compared to 2019, increased by 7.5 per cent. In terms of the total floor area, new industrial buildings and warehouses (486.8 thousand m²) and office buildings (351.7 thousand m²) completed accounted for the largest share.

In 2020, construction of 15,996 new dwellings were started in the country, of which 55.7 per cent – in individuals houses. The useful floor area of the new dwellings whose construction was started amounted to 1.6 million m². Compared to 2019, the number of such dwellings increased by 28.3 per cent, and the useful floor area of dwellings – 31.9 per cent.

In 2020, the total floor area of the new non-residential buildings whose construction was started amounted to 1 million m², which is by 23.6 per cent less than in 2019. In terms of the total floor area, new industrial buildings and warehouses (357.6 thousand m²) and office buildings (216.6 thousand m²) whose construction was started accounted for the largest share.

Statistical information on construction work carried out prepared using short-term statistics survey data.

In 2020, the volume of construction work carried out within the country and abroad amounted to EUR 3.8 billion; against 2019, it decreased by 1.8 per cent at constant prices.

In 2020, against 2019, the volume of construction work carried out within the country decreased by 1.7 per cent, and abroad – 2.2 per cent at constant prices.

Over the year (December 2020, against December 2019), construction input prices increased by 0.4 per cent.

This was determined by an increase in average gross hourly earnings (2.4 per cent), hourly labour costs on operation of construction machines and mechanisms (1.3 per cent), as well as by a decrease in prices of construction materials and products (0.7 per cent).

As for buildings and structures, the largest increase in prices over a year was observed for construction of residential buildings (0.9 per cent). Construction of non-residential buildings went up in price by 0.6 per cent, while prices for construction of civil engineering remained almost unchanged.

Statistical information on the past, present or future changes in the economic activities of construction enterprises, construction confidence indicator, characterising changes and tendencies of construction activity has been prepared by applying data of the statistical survey of construction enterprises, also known as business opinion survey. Statistical survey is intended for short-term economic analysis and forecast, i.e. to foresee economic activity relations and growth periods, to establish present economic state in the country and trend of business activity changes. More specifically, such data are increasingly used in predicting turning points in the economic cycle.
