The chapter presents annual statistical information on changes in earnings of the population, gender pay gap, the number of employees in the public and private sectors. The minimum amounts approved in accordance with the procedures established by laws are presented.

 

 

 

In 2022, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy (individual enterprises included) totalled EUR 1,789. Compared to 2021, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy increased by 13.3 per cent: in the public sector, average gross monthly earnings totalled EUR 1,870 (increased by 10.5 per cent), in the private sector – EUR  1,756.2 (increased by 14.6 per cent).

Over a year, an increase in average gross monthly earnings was recorded in all economic activities: from 8.3 per cent (human healthcare and social work activities) to 19.8 per cent (accommodation and food service activities).

Average net (after employee tax) monthly earnings in the whole economy totalled EUR 1,121.1, and against 2021, increased by 11.9 per cent: in the public sector, they amounted to EUR 1,167.2 (increased by 9.5 per cent), in the private sector – EUR 1,102.4 (increased by 13.1 per cent).

In 2022, against 2021, index of real earnings in the whole economy totalled 93.5 per cent: in the public sector – 91.5 per cent, in the private sector – 94.5 per cent.

In 2022, against 2021, average net monthly earnings increased in all municipalities – from 5 (in Neringa municipality) to 16.5 per cent (in Druskininkai municipality). In the enterprises of Vilnius city and Kaunas city municipalities, the average net monthly earnings in 2022 exceeded the average net monthly earnings (EUR 1,121.1) in the whole economy by EUR 159 and EUR 46.1 respectively.

Changes in earnings in 2022 were influenced by the following amendments to the tax system: increased basic wages for politicians, judges, civil servants, public service employees and employees of budgetary institutions, increased minimum monthly wage, changes in the procedure for the calculation of the tax-exempt amount of income, and other reasons.

The average number of employees in full-time units in 2022, against 2021, in the whole economy increased by 28 thousand (2.5 per cent): in the public sector – decreased by 1.1 thousand (0.3 per cent), in the private sector – increased by 29.1 thousand (3.7 per cent).

In 2022, 28.4 per cent of the employed population aged 15–74 stated that the tasks they do at work repeat very often, 35.1 per cent – often, 30 per cent – partly often. Women’s tasks are more repetitive than men’s: 32.9 per cent of women and 23.6 per cent of men stated that their tasks repeated very often. Tasks are largely or not at all repetitive for 6.5 per cent of the employed, more often for men (8.3 per cent) than for women (4.9 per cent).

In 2022, 24.4 per cent of the employed population aged 15–74 spent all or almost all of their working time on digital devices. Women used these tools more often than men (29.7 and 18.6 per cent respectively). 12 per cent of the employed used a computer or smartphone for half or a little more than half of their working time, 15.8 per cent – for some but less than half of their working time, and 14.1 per cent – for a small part of their working time. 33.7 per cent of the employed population aged 15–74 stated they did not use digital devices for work at all. Men were more likely than women not to use these tools for work at all (38.4 and 29.4 per cent respectively).

Employed persons aged 15–74 stated that they spent some but less than half of their working time communicating verbally with people from the same company or organisation for work purposes (34.8 per cent of employed persons). 19.3 per cent of the employed population aged 15–74 spent all or almost all of their working time communicating within the organization, 7 per cent of the employed indicated that they did not communicate verbally at all on work-related matters within the organisation. Men were more likely not to spend their working time on this at all than women (8.2 and 6 per cent respectively).
