The chapter provides information about the development and use of information technologies (IT) in Lithuania. The use of websites, cloud computing services, changes in e-commerce and Artificial Intelligence technologies and purposes of their usage. Data on the IT use are provided based on the statistical survey.

At the beginning of 2023, computers and the Internet connection were used by all production and service enterprises having 10 and more persons employed. The Internet becomes faster: download speed of more than 500 Mbit/s was used by 30.9 per cent enterprises. The Internet was used for daily work at least once a week by 64.3 per cent of persons employed.
At the beginning of 2023, 76.5 per cent of enterprises had website. 63.9 per cent of enterprises published catalogues and pricelists of their products on their websites, 19.8 per cent – offered an opportunity to order products and services, 13.3 per cent – allowed the delivery tracking online. 19.4 per cent of enterprises had the possibility to advertise of open job positions or online submit a job application, 9.2 per cent – had a chat service for customer support (a chatbot, virtual agent or a person replying to customers).
At the beginning of 2023, 3.7 per cent of enterprises had a mobile app for clients (e.g. for loyalty program, e-commerce, customer support).

At the beginning of 2023, 38.4 per cent of enterprises purchased cloud computing services: 78.9 per cent of large, 57.4 per cent of medium sized and 32.7 per cent of small sized enterprises. Email – as a cloud computing service – was used by 32.1, office software – 20.2, database hosting – 20.2, file storage – 24.8, finance and accounting software – 21.8, customer relationship management software – 6.6, ensuring IT capacity for the functioning of own software – 16.4, security software applications – 22.8 per cent of enterprises.

In 2022, 38.9 per cent of enterprises carried out e-commerce, i.e. sold goods or services via the Internet or other computer networks. In 2022, 15.8 per cent of enterprises sold goods or services via website or mobile applications, 30.4 per cent – via e-commerce platforms, and 5.2 per cent – through electronic data interchange. In 2022, 21.4 per cent of enterprises sold goods or services via the Internet or mobile applications to private customers, 31.1 per cent – to other enterprises and public authorities.

At the beginning of 2023, 4.9 per cent enterprises used Artificial Intelligence technologies: 2.3 per cent – used technologies performing analysis of written language, 1.4 per cent – technologies converting spoken language into machine-readable format, 1.3 per cent – technologies generating written or spoken language, 1.4 per cent – technologies identifying objects or persons based on images, 1.3 per cent – machine learning, 2.4 per cent – technologies automating different workflows, 0.5 per cent – technologies enabling physical movement of machines via autonomous decisions based on observation of surroundings. Artificial Intelligence software or systems used for research and development (R&D) or innovation activity (1.2 per cent), for organisation of business processess (1.1 per cent), for ICT security (1.1 per cent), and controlling or finance management (1.1 per cent).

Since the reference year 2022, data have been published according to a statistical unit – enterprise. An enterprise is a group of legal units, a legal unit or part of a legal unit. In the case when legal units are part of a group of enterprises and their combined activities form an operating segment, such legal units are treated as an enterprise.
