Based on the data from the survey on the use of IT in households, in 2019, 77 per cent of households had personal com­puters, 82 per cent – Internet access at home¹, which is by, recpectively, 1 and 4 percentage points more than in 2018. In urban areas, households having computers and Internet access accounted for 79 and 83 per cent, in rural areas – 71 and 78 per cent respectively.

In 2019, out of all persons aged 16–74, 82 per cent were using the Internet (in 2018, 80 per cent).The Internet was mainly used for communication, search for information and banking services: 76 per cent of all persons aged 16–74 (94 per cent of internauts in this age group) used the Internet for communication, 69 per cent – search for information about goods and services (84 per cent of internauts), 65 per cent (79 per cent of internauts) – the Internet banking services, 61 per cent each (74 per cent of internauts in each group) – participation in social networks and search for information related to health.

55 per cent of persons aged 16–74 (67 per cent of internauts in this age group) used the electronic services provided by public authorities and other public service institutions at least once during the year.

Over the last 12 months, 48 per cent of persons aged 16–74 (59 per cent of internauts in this age group) bought or ordered goods or services via the Internet.

At the beginning of 2019, computers and the Internet were used by all production and service enterprises having 10 and more employed. The Internet becomes faster: download speed of 100 Mbit/s and faster was used by 33.9 per cent of enterprises (in 2018, 31.5 per cent). Computers were used for daily work at least once a week by 51, the Internet – 46.9 per cent of employed (in 2018, 48.3 and 43.7 per cent respectively). Mobile Internet access was used for working purposes by 27.7 per cent of employees (in 2018, 23.3 per cent). 54 per cent of enterprises used the applications providing online audio and video calls (e.g. Skype, WhatsApp).

At the beginning of 2019, 15.2 per cent of enterprises had IT specialists whose main activity was related with IT systems’ launching, enhancement and maintenance (at the beginning of 2018, 17 per cent). In 2018, 9.1 per cent of enterprises were looking for IT specialists; of them, 46.8 per cent faced difficulties in their search. Part of enterprises organized IT upskilling training: 6.2 per cent of enterprises organized such training for IT specialists, 8.7 per cent – for other staff (in 2017, 5.4 and 6.6 per cent respectively).

At the beginning of 2019, 80 per cent of enterprises had website (in 2018, 78.1 per cent). 54.4 per cent of enterprises published catalogues and pricelists of their products on their websites, 21.7 per cent – allowed ordering of goods or services online, 12.3 per cent – allowed the delivery tracking online (in 2018, 54, 19.7 and 12.9 per cent respectively). 48.3 per cent of enterprises used the Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP), 36 per cent – the Customer Relationship Management System (CRM) (in 2017, 46.7 and 33 per cent respectively).

In 2018, 93.9 per cent of enterprises were using information from the websites of public authorities and agencies (in 2016, 72.8 per cent): 84.5 per cent – in administrative processes, 40.6 per cent – for commercial activities, 42.5 per cent – to create and provide electronic services (in 2017, 66.4, 40.4 and 41.2 per cent respectively).

54.8 per cent of enterprises used electronic social media for work purposes (in 2017, 50 per cent): 51 per cent – had accounts on social networks (in 2017, 46.6 per cent), 19 per cent – disseminated information on the multimedia content sharing websites (in 2017, 17.2 per cent), 12.4 per cent – exchanged information based on Wiki (in 2017, 11.7 per cent), 9.1 per cent – wrote company blogs (in 2017, 10 per cent).

At the beginning of 2019, 93 per cent of enterprises used at least one measure of cyber security. 79.8 per cent of enterprises updated software (including operating systems) on a regular basis, 68.4 per cent – backed up data in different locations, 65.6 per cent – applied strong password authentication, 53.5 per cent – performed network access control, 28.3 per cent – tested cyber security, 25.5 per cent – applied methods of encryption of data, documents or emails, 23.6 per cent – performed the assessment of IT risks, 22.5 per cent – carried out analysis of registration files after cyber incidents.

With the view of protecting IT systems, enterprises made sure that their employed were aware of the cyber security requirements: 54.4 per cent of enterprises informed their employees while entering into employment contract with them, 42.3 per cent – provided free-access information within the company, 21.4 per cent – organized compulsory training or review of material. In most enterprises (63.8 per cent), the maintenance of IT security equipment was carried out by external service providers, in 46.3 per cent – by the employees of the enterprise. 35.9 per cent of enterprises had prepared documents on cyber security measures, verification or procedures within the enterprise (in 2017, 19.4 per cent).

In 2018, 25.7 per cent of enterprises carried out e-commerce, i.e. sold goods or services via the Internet or other computer networks (in 2017, 22.4 per cent). In 2018, 19.2 per cent of enterprises sold goods or services via website or mobile applications (in 2017, 18.5 per cent), 10.1 per cent – via e-commerce platforms (in 2017, 7.4 per cent). 19.8 per cent of enterprises sold goods or services via the Internet or mobile applications to private customers (in 2017, 16 per cent), 16.5 per cent – to public authorities (in 2017, 14 per cent).
