This chapter presents statistical information on the turnover of trade and catering enterprises, its changes, retail trade and catering network.
Statistical information has been prepared using short-term statistics and annual survey data on trade and catering enterprises. A statistical unit in the survey is an enterprise. The survey covers trade and catering enterprises of all types and forms of ownership. The basis for the survey is the Statistical Register of Economic Entities (Statistical Business Register).
Enterprises are classified according to the national version (EVRK Rev. 2) of the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community (NACE Rev. 2).
A consumer price index is used for calculating changes in turnover.
In 2018, against 2017, the turnover of trade and food and beverage service enterprises (VAT excluded) increased.
In 2018, compared to 2017, the turnover of enterprises engaged in retail trade, except for trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles, increased by 6.5, compared to 2015 – 18.8 per cent at constant prices. Against 2017, the turnover of enterprises engaged in retail trade in food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 3.5, against 2015 – 6.7 per cent. In 2018, against 2017, the turnover of enterprises engaged in trade in non-food products increased by 7.1, against 2015 – 20.2 per cent at constant prices.
In 2018, retail trade enterprises, except for those engaged in trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles, owned 16 379 stores, which is by 421 stores, or 2.6 per cent, more than in 2015 and by 53 stores, or 0.3 per cent, more than in 2017. Against 2017, their sales space grew by 140.5 thousand m², or 4.2 per cent, against 2015 – by 319.5 thousand m², or 10.2 per cent. In 2018, the average sales space per store amounted to 211 m² (in 2015, 197 m²).
In 2018, against 2017, the turnover of enterprises engaged in the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles increased by 11.8, against 2015 – by 54.4 per cent at constant prices.

In 2018, against 2017, the turnover of food and beverage service enterprises increased by 11.1, against 2015 – by 20 per cent at constant prices.
In 2018, enterprises engaged in food and beverage services owned 3 961 catering units, with 252.5 thousand seats in them (in 2015, 3 685 catering units and 238.9 thousand seats respectively). The average number of seats per catering unit in 2018 was 64 seats (in 2015 – 65 seats).
